What is a “green” building?
Green building refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.
At ECO Building Resource our belief is if we build or renovate with the concern for human health at the forefront, the health of our planet will follow directly in line. Using the least toxic, more sustainable, higher performance materials means a safer, healthier better built project to be proud of.
Why are the materials at ECO Building Resource better?
At ECO Building Resource we begin by researching alternative products to replace the current high solvent, high VOC, short life, low performance materials currently being used on the market. Once an alternative has been found our highly knowledgeable CLIENTS and associates review the products data sheets to determine any toxicities. If the first review passes inspection we then request samples to evaluate quality and performance of each product. Providing the product passes on site / on job tests. Then and only then ECO Building Resource will bring the material into inventory for our clients
Why do “green” materials cost more?
THEY DON’T! This is a myth. You can buy cheap anything or you can purchase quality for a little bit more. Our best analogy is that you can buy a tube of caulking for around $3-$5 and it will last maybe 1-3 years if you’re lucky, but you will need to do the job again sooner (and be careful of the toxins) OR you can purchase a quality green product for a bit more and it will last longer. Now you don’t think there is much financial gain, you’re right, unless you are the one re-caulking every time, or worst, PAYING someone to re-caulk every few years.
